Digital Credentials Introduction

Digital Credentials, also known as Digital Badges, are graphic representations of an accomplishment, achievement, or certification. Coded information, embedded within the image, describes the criteria for the award, identifies the recipient, and validates the issuer. This layering of data makes digital credentials a rich and versatile electronic means of documenting formal and informal personal and professional development that can be reliably verified.

Digital Credentials can be displayed on personal and professional websites, a variety of social media venues, and even within the University's own Moodle learning management system environment. The images when displayed on websites and social media can serve as hyperlinks to pages displaying the credential's criteria and other detailed information. Faculty who earn this credential have completed professional development to develop and design their own online or hybrid course in accordance with national design standards of quality. Recipients of this credential earned this distinction in one of two ways:

Certified Online Teacher

Faculty who earn this credential have completed professional development on current online teaching methodologies, pedagogies, and tools in order to prepare them to deliver quality online and hybrid courses. Recipients of this credential earned this distinction in one of two ways:

Course Design Practicum

Faculty who earn this digital credential have completed Course Design Practicum, a 10-week online design/build experience developed and facilitated by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Office of Distance Learning's Instructional Support staff.

Course Reviewer

To be recognized as a Course Reviewer, faculty must have completed the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) workshop and participated in at least one peer review for an established online or hybrid course.
