3:00-4:00pm Social Media for Learning
Lead Presenter: Jane Bozarth (Author and eLearning Coordinator, North Carolina Office of State Human Resources, USA)
Keynote Address
Abstract: Social media is becoming an integral part of people's lives and can no longer be ignored by educators. For practitioners in distance education and online learning, using social media effectively to build community and facilitate instructional interactions is becoming an essential skill. Jane Bozarth, an expert in social media for learning, will define, demystify, and explore the use of low cost technologies that can be integrated into blended and online courses. She will show how to use blogs, wikis, Facebook, Twitter, and online groups to help facilitate communication, increase participation, support engagement, and enhance transfer of new learning. Plan to walk away with some great ideas for applying collaboration strategies to your course designs.
