Faculty Spotlight - Dr. Denise Linton
Wed, 10/16/2013 - 12:37pmDr. Denise Linton is a dynamic and engaging graduate faculty member who teaches students enrolled in the family nurse practitioner and nurse educator concentrations of the online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program. Two of her online courses (Nursing 516 and 583) have earned the ULearn Certified Course distinction following an internal peer-review process based on the Quality Matters standards for course design. A recent graduate wrote of Dr. Linton: “She always possessed an imaginative approach to her instructions, whether it included instructional videos, video/voice lectures, or recommendations for hands on experiences. … I feel that I am the quality of the nurse practitioner that I am today in part because of Dr. Linton’s instruction and guidance.”
Part of her success in the classroom is a result of her commitment to lifelong learning. Dr. Linton has earned two internal faculty certifications issued by the Office of Distance Learning: ULearn Certified Online Teacher and ULearn Certified Course Designer. She has completed six Sloan Consortium workshops, more than any other faculty member on campus, and she is an active participant in university-sponsored trainings on Quality Matters, Moodle, lecture capture, and web conferencing. To recognize her successes as an online educator and commitment to professional development, the Office of Distance Learning selected Dr. Linton as its nominee for the 2013 Sloan-C Excellence in Online Teaching Award, a national award which recognizes an outstanding individual who has creatively utilized the ALN approach to online learning.
